Located in PutthaMonthon sai 4 road in Nakhorn Pathom province, Buddhamonthon park may be considered as one of the most sacred religious sites built in that area, and the largest sacred places of Buddhism in Thailand for that matter. This beautiful tourist attraction and religious place was built in the year 1957 by the government to celebrate the 2500th year of the existence of Buddha. Buddhamonthon park occupies a large area of about 1000 acres of land, viewing a serene landscape and it contains many interesting structures that don’t only characterize the place as a significant Bangkok site but also reminds Buddhists all around Thailand of the importance of their religion. The most interesting structure is of the Buddha image cast in bronze measuring 15.8 meters in the centre of the area and this sculpture is surrounded by four commemorative sites concerning Lord Buddha’s birth, enlightenment, the first preaching sermon and Nirvana. Not only do Buddhists go to this beautiful place to pray and make donations but many tourists also go and view the serene landscapes that surround Buddhamonthon. There is a huge park where people go and feed fishes, picnic and relax. There is also a Buddhist museum, a hall keeping marble ‘Pali’ canon and meditation halls. It is a perfect place for families to spend their weekend in a very religious and relaxing mood.
