Dusit Zoo ( Khao Din)

Dusit Zoo ( Khao Din)
The Dusit zoo is known as Khao din for the Thais, located on the Rama v road next to the old parliament building in the quiet Dusit area of Bangkok. It has been a sanctuary to thousands of animal for over 60 years. It is a full function animal park with various facilities like an animal hospital, zoo museum, educational center, and sightseeing train. It was originally the botanical gardens for King Rama V, and part of the Dusit Royal Palace gardens. In 1954 the Zoological authority took it over and have been caring for it ever since. The collection of animals in the zoo features 288 mammal types with the elephant a favorite attraction.

Over 1,000 bird types and nearly 300 reptiles make up the statistics for this very calming part of Bangkok. Animals from far and wide are featured at the park. Different types of monkeys, hippopotamus, alligators, tigers, and lions together with rare breeds (for Thailand) like penguins, camels, wallabies, and kangaroos are kept here. Some of other highlights include African Savanna, the area where giraffes, ostriches, and zebras roam, Nocturnal House, Reptile House, Pheasants Aviary, Hawks Exhibit, Elephants House, and an impressive Play Land, where many rides are available for your children's laughs and giggles.

The park also features impressive lakes, and at a very small fee, you can enjoy boat peddling and feed the fish at the same time. Food is also a convenience for everyone visiting the zoo as there many local foods and desert served inside the Food Center. There are also 7-Eleven, KFC, and ice cream stand inside the zoo. Refreshments shops are there throughout the zoo in every corner for visitors to stop snacks or drinks after walking around.

The Dusit Zoo is also another option for families to picnic as foods and eatable are permitted to be brought inside and there are plenty of shades and benches. To get to the Zoo the best way to get there is to take the BTS Sky train to Victory Monument and then a taxi for the remaining part of the journey. The admission fee is 50 baht for adults and 10 baht for children.

It is an ideal place for a perfect weekend for families to have a day out.
