The ‘Royal Field’ also known as the Sanam Luang is situated in the heart of the Bangkok old city. Just a few steps away from the Grand Palace, it is main venue for all the traditional ceremonies and the biggest celebration of the King’s birthday is also held at the oval shaped park.
Just a few minutes walk away from the busiet tourist area the Khao San road, all the tourist visiting the khao san makes it a point of visiting the Sanam luang to enjoy their evening walk, and find light snacks as appetizer from the small stalls around the park.
It is a favourite spot for kite flying with an amazing sky blue, an open ground and a cool wind just makes it perfect for all the kites flying lovers to make a better sight out of the royal field during the evening. The park is also the venue for the Ploughing ceremony and the ceremony of calling the rain. The practice of holding this ceremony in the park was initiated by King Rama IV. The Sanam luang was built especially for this purpose.
