Wat Pho
Wat Pho, or the Temple of the Reclining Buddha, is the oldest and largest Buddhist temple in Bangkok. It is home to more Buddha images than any other Bangkok temple and it shelters the largest Buddha in Thailand. The Wat pho is located on the Chetuphon Road which is one of the oldest roads in Thailand with a lot of religious and temples inside. Wat Pho was built around 200 years before Bangkok became the capital of Thailand but it was newly renovated by the Rama I with a very beautiful and classic and Thai traditional decoration. Wat Pho is also famous as Thailand's first university, and is center for traditional Thai masage - the rich, famous and powerful have all been known to come here. Inscribed on stone in the walls of Wat Pho are all that was known about Thai massage dating from the reign of King Rama III. The biggest and oldest Buddha image is located inside this very own temple with covered in gold plating and he is decorated with mother-of-pearl inlay on his eyes and the soles of his feet. The bottoms of the Buddha's feet are intricately decorated with 108 auspicious scenes in Chinese and Indian styles, all the stone sculptures and images of Buddha shines with gold. The Wat Pho complex consists of two walled compounds bisected by Soi Chetuphon running east-west. The northern walled compound is where the reclining Buddha and massage school are found. The southern walled compound, Tukgawee, is a working Buddhist monastery with monks in residence and a school. Wat Pho is popular among both the local Thai and tourist as people from all over Thailand travels here to seek blessings and offer foods and prayers to all the monks inside the temple. It is also a part of the mostly all the tour company’s bringing tourist to visit and see the historical places in Bangkok. Wat Pho is one place that everyone visiting Bangkok should check out all the history and facts about Buddha.
